Mission
To continue to enhance the innovation essential for the U.S. economy and to address critical societal challenges, not only must we develop new and better processes for innovation, but we must also see those processes adopted by key innovation drivers – from boardroom executives to basement startups. While researchers continue to create new design methods with great potential, they generally have had little impact on industry. This proposed work aims to identify challenges for the industrial adoption of innovation processes and tools, to articulate the gap between academic tools/processes and industrial need, and to identify potential new approaches for closing this gap, ultimately enhancing industry’s ability to address societal challenges.
The investigation will consider only those organizations that have attempted to use Bioinspired Design or Patent Mining in one form or another over the last five years and will target three levels of investigation : executive and key personnel interviews, broad surveys, and in situ observational studies.
